Synopsis:
Allison Macclesfield wants—no needs—to be a rock star, and what better decade to do it in than the ‘80s? Music is her passion. She’s got her future mapped out. Move to New York, find a job, audition to be lead singer in a band.

Plans don’t include giving it all up for Peter Shepard, the sexiest guy she’s ever met. He’s nothing like the guys she’s known. Peter’s life is full of mystery, and though they believe they're a perfect match, she can have him or her rock star dreams. But not both.

That’s right, you're getting Commander Shepard’s (Shep’s) story, set way back in 1980 when the movies were epic (Return of the Jedi) and the music was bitchin’! (Blondie).

Interview

Tell us about the first story you ever wrote and how old you were.
I don't remember the first story or age, but my mom would probably tell you I was in first grade. I've always written stories.

When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
My strong points are the characters and my voice. Weakness is plotting.

What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it?
I used to mock Writers Block as something amateurs got. And then I got it. First I cried. Then I got angry. Then I played a lot of Farm Heroes Saga. I took about a month off of writing and restarted by writing something not on a due date. I reentered the Coded for Love series where everything was familiar and it was easier to write.

What's the hardest part of the writing process for you?
Plotting. I have trouble seeing the big picture.

How long does it take you to write a book?
Longer than it should.

Do you manage to write every day?
Yes. Okay, no. But I do something writing related every day.

What is a typical working/writing day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
My kids are on the school bus at 7:30 and I'm at my desk by 8:15 after breakfast and a little housecleaning. Then I write, do some marketing and other desk-related work. I'll run an errand or two then try to write some more in the afternoon.

Marketing: Facebook Events or Blog Tours what do you prefer?
Currently Facebook events seem to get more participation than blog tours.

Have you written a book you love that you have not published yet?
Yep. My agent is shopping something called Sex, Lies & Scandal.

What is one piece of advice you received that you carry with you in your writing?
Writing is a muscle. Use it frequently.

What advice would you give aspiring writers?
Write and join a professional organization such as RWA.
