The great cataclysm wiped almost all life from the face of planet Earth, but tiny pockets of survivors crawled from the ashes, with only one thought: survival, at any cost.
But not all survivors were human.
In the dark, militant society that has risen in the aftermath, vampires, once thought to be mythical, have been assimilated and enslaved. Used for blood sport their lives are allowed to continue only for the entertainment of the masses. Reviled as savages, they are destined to serve out their immortal lives in the arena, as gladiators.
And there is no greater gladiator than Mira: undefeated, uncompromising...and seemingly unbreakable. When an escape attempt leads Mira into the path of Lucian Stavros, the city’s Regent, her destiny is changed forever.
Lucian, raised in a culture which both reviles and celebrates the savagery and inhumanity of vampires, finds Mira as intriguing as she is brash. An impulsive decision - to become Mira’s patron – changes more than just Lucian’s perception about vampire kind.  The course of his life is altered in ways he could never have predicted – a life that is suddenly as expendable as hers.
Can Mira prove to Lucian that all is not as it seems? Can Lucian escape centuries of lies, bloodshed, and propaganda to see the truth? Or will the supreme power of the human overlords destroy them both?

This is a fantastic read from beginning to end. Ms. Salidas will keep you glued to the pages as you read this story. Watching the world has you know it be destroyed and rebuilt and flourish. Vampires and humans can co-exist or at least for a short time. Mira a vampire a slave for the human race and a gladiator put to fight a battles that end in life or death, will do anything to escape the clutches and torture brought to her and all vampires. Can Mira escape and find refuge away from the savagery that the humans bring to all vampires. In this Post Apocalyptic World that was created for us to explore we see that humans are not always the prey that they can and are sometimes more ravenous for bloodshed than the creatures of the night.
Ms Salidas world building is phenomenal the characters are amazing.  I loved Mira's character she is a free spirit and a kick ass vampire who stands her ground no matter what punishment she may have to endure. Olivia (human) well she is a Bitch and only out for monetary gain. She owns Mira and has no problem issuing punishments at even the slightest infraction that Mira does. Lucian (human) and (Regent to this new world that was built from ashes) is intrigued with Mira  and wants to see if everything he has heard about vampires growing up is true. Can he earn Mira's trust? Can Mira and Lucian save the world and bring back that unity between the vampire and human races once again? If you are looking for a Vampire story with a twist I highly recommend you checking out this new Series. Because vampires are not the predators in this story they have become the prey.
