Dave Reynolds is a fictional character from Joe King’s F.U.B.A.R. novel, the first installment of a planned series. In first appeared in 2014. Dave is the protagonist of the story, a directionless janitor at the Ravenswood Institute for Mental Health. Jaded with life, he unexpectedly receives a terrifying shock and a jolt of excitement one evening shift when he encounters Rufus, a wolf-man special agent and Dr Carver, a psychiatrist for the clandestine governmental special operatives of the Frontline Unified Battalion of Arcane Resistance (F.U.B.A.R.) Dr Carver informs Dave that he has innate supernatural abilities which would be a tremendous aide in assisting the local special agent strike team in combating the evil, demonic forces within the city and the world. Dave is accidentally killed during his first night at the Mad House base by Lizzy Chambers, a punk rock witch recruit who he is introduced to. Desperate to undo her damage, Lizzy brashly meddles with magic that is too advanced for her in an effort to resurrect him. In the process, she opens a psychic doorway in Dave’s mind allowing a group of mischief loving gremlins called the Illuminaughty to hijack his personality. They alter his face with permanent clown make-up and instate his foolish id as the dominant aspect of his personality. Psychotic or not, Dave’s abilities and suicidal bravery place him as the leader of Whiskey team in their war on the apocalypse plotting Alliance of Nyx. Dave was created by Joe King as a way to employ the usual comic relief, side-kick character in the driver’s seat for an epic series of action-packed good versus evil. On February 01 2015, Ebook Reviewer rated the book, “The ensuing adventure is wonderfully self-indulgent: dark in tone, tense and exciting, yet never taken too seriously. It reminded me of the later series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or its spin-off: Angel. (I
was a fan of both shows and now I’m a fan of FUBAR.)”

Joe King woke up one day, unsure of where he came from or where he was going. To this day he blindly stumbles through life hoping everything will turn out okay. At some point, he worked as a janitor in a mental health hospital, where he discovered an obscene amount, emphasise obscene, of hair on the carpet of one of the counselling rooms. Naturally, he became convinced that the patient must have been a werewolf, there is simply no other explanation. Not having any silver or dog collars to hand he decided to knock the idea around which snowballed into F.U.B.A.R., his first novel and the first instalment of the series.
When he's not writing, he enjoys reading books and comic books, begrudgingly trying to emulate the fine work of the talented comic book artists, loathing himself, slapping the bass in a rock band, loathing himself a bit more and playing guitar.
