Dimitri has no idea how his family line became trapped in the genie bond. He just knows resisting has never ended well. When he meets Syd—assertive, sexy, intelligent Syd—he becomes determined to make her his own. Except Karl has ensured Dimitri can't tell anyone about the bond, and Syd isn't the type to tolerate secrets.

Then Karl starts sending him away on back-to-back wishes. Unable to balance love and lies, Dimitri sets out to uncover Karl's ultimate plan and put it to an end. But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming—the wish that will destroy him.

A dark twist on the genie folklore, SUMMONED follows a reluctant criminal as he unravels the mystery of the paranormal bond controlling him.

What Research Went Into Writing SUMMONED

Writing the draft to SUMMONED came pretty easily. That’s not to say I didn’t lose sleep, brain cells, and sanity to revising and editing, but that’s part of the job description. In fine print.
I think part of the reason I didn’t have to spend too much on research was that I was already familiar with most of the places and things Dimitri experiences. I grew up in Arizona, been to California more times than I can count, drove to New Mexico, flew to New Orleans a few times. I had already long consumed everything I could find about the jinn.
There were a few points that found me worshiping at the Google altar, though.
The convention center. Even though I’ve been to New Orleans, I had not been into the convention center. Luckily, a few websites got Dim through his little adventure, and a quick chat with someone who had been there sealed the deal.
Danville, Virginia. I’ve never been to Virginia, but Dim found himself headed that way. Nothing a map, some pictures, and a lot of coffee couldn’t fix.
The apple. Oh, the apple. This took more time than pretty much anything else in the book, mainly because it involved me reading a lot of mythological stories to find one that suited my—or Dimitri’s—purpose. Then some late night chats with a friend followed, until all the little threads tied together into a pretty picture—which is now immortalized on the cover thanks to a few talented people.
So there you have it. Of all the craziness in SUMMONED, it was a convention center, a small town, and an apple that cost me the most research time. And while I can’t tell you here what, exactly, all of it means—no spoilers allowed—I can assure you that the apple has nothing to do with sparkly vampires.
