Ava is third generation of The Broken kind who reside on a planet called Poseidon. The Broken share this planet with an ancient race known as the Minoans. The Broken are a breed of humans who evolved from a program that was constructed to save human kind from harsh conditions back on Earth. But Ava knows much more, and feels much more than she is allowed to. When she starts questioning her origins and the destruction of Earth, things go horribly wrong for her. She is saved by a Minoan boy from an attempted kidnapping on her life – the perpetrators are evil Zulus and their dark ancient magic. Humans and Minoans are forbidden to interact with each other, and as she is taken back to their village she finds out why – they know of her, her kind and her destiny to save a dying race. Ava must rid them from the Council’s ruling and free the galaxy of The Shadow. Her destiny is to rise above the fall, because within her soul is the key to an archaic weapon that has been missing in the mix of a genetic code since the time of the ancients. As the prophecy unfolds she learns of her bloodline – a bloodline that makes her less human than she could ever have imagined. She alone has the power to destroy or save, but the mind-shift is a horrible thing. Ava will become what she hates to save the ones she loves. Beaten, poisoned, possessed and betrayed by her own emotions, she has no choice but to rise above it all… for that is her Destiny.

When Ashley Brown was five years old, her parents left her in the care of her grandma, though her mother promised to return for her. At fourteen, Ashley is still living with her grandmother in Highland, a city on the outskirts of Maryville, a place known as the "ghetto."
Ashley has shadowy memories of her mother taking her to her favorite place, the library. Reading a good book allows Ashley to escape her poverty and crime infested community. One afternoon after listening to the Mayor's press conference, Ashley discovers that the Mayor is taking away the community library. In spite of being put on punishment for a week by her grandma for defending herself from the school bullies, Ashley feels it is worth the risk to sneak out of her apartment to mail a letter she has written to the Mayor about keeping the library open.
Every day homeless people approach her and beg for something to eat or for money. The most frequent requests come from two disheveled individuals Ashley has nicknamed "Orphan Annie" and the "business-man bum." As if escaping the homeless people isn't enough, there are a bunch of bullies who harass Ashley. One day, the bullies chase her into an alley. They force her to the ground and Ashley is afraid of what could have happened next. This is one time Ashley wished she listen to her grandma.

Band Together For LUPUS

Friday, November 9, 2012

Hi, My name is Alexandra and I'm 21 years old and I have a disease called SLE Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect the skin, your joints, your kidneys, and your other organs. I was diagnosed in March of 2011, I was only 19 years old. I was away at school my 1st year at college and I was having a lot of pain in my wrists. The doctors ran a bunch of tests and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Finally they told me it was SLE Lupus. The first two medicines the doctors put me on made me violently ill so on the Saturday after thanksgiving (2011) I started having to give myself Methotrexate injections (low dose chemo) on a weekly basis. This treatment works but at a price, it drains a lot from my body but right now its one of my only medicine options. On 11/1 I spent more than 8 hours in the ER for dehydration, exhaustion and weakness from both the Methotrexate and the Lupus. After talking to my mom, I decided that I wanted to give back to the Lupus community and contacted some of my favorite authors and Anna to set this up. So please consider making a donation! For every dollar you donate you get one entry into the Giveaway and everyone who donates will either receive a hand made lupus awareness bracelet or an autographed bookmark (depending on availability).  The link is http://www.gofundme.com/1hi640 . Please check back often as new prizes are being added and if I get enough donations i will do 2 grand prizes. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at alexandralouk@gmail.com. The contest will run until 11/30 and winners will be announced on December 2nd.
We have several authors who have donated books for one lucky winner who graciously donated to the Lupus Foundation Fund.
